This guide will walk through how to update the firmware of 4K X on Windows.
If you are using a Mac, you can find the update instructions here.
Note: When performing a firmware update, it is critical that the update is not interrupted. While updating, please ensure the following:
⚠️ Do not disconnect 4K X.
⚠️ Do not close or quit 4K Capture Utility.
⚠️ Do not shut down your computer.

Firmware 24.12.10
Requires 4K Capture Utility 1.7.15
- Resolves an issue where displays connected to HDMI passthrough would exhibit color banding

- Added support for ultra-wide formats ultrawide display formats 3440x1440 and 2560x1080
- Additional ultrawide formats may work, though Elgato has not validated them.
- Fixed an issue where recording 3440x1440p240 in MJPEG could produce corrupt video

Firmware Update Steps
1) Download and install the latest version of Elgato 4K Capture Utility from elgato.com/downloads.
2) Disconnect the HDMI cables connected to the HDMI in port and the HDMI out port of your 4K X.
3) Open 4K Capture Utility
4) Press and hold the CTRL key on your keyboard, and while doing so, click on the preferences icon at the top right corner.
5) Now, release the CTRL key.
6) In the preferences window, navigate to the Device tab
6) Click on the Update Firmware and wait until the update completes.
⚠️ Do not unplug the USB cable from 4K X during the firmware update.
7) After the update is complete, unplug the USB cable from 4K X for 30 seconds, and then plug it in again
