If the YouTube plugin for Elgato Stream Deck is not working and a warning icon shows up when pressing an action, or when in an action, you see the text The request cannot be completed because you have exceeded your quota
then this information can help.
What does this message mean?
This message is coming from YouTube directly. It is letting you know that the API quota that the plugin uses to send requests to YouTube has been reached, and the action could not be completed.
What is a YouTube API quota?
There is a daily limit on how many API requests a plugin or app can make to YouTube’s servers. Each type of request (like checking live status, viewer count, or updating the live stream list) costs "quota points." When the total quota is used up, all further requests fail until the next reset.
Why am I getting this error when I’ve barely used the plugin?
The quota is tied to the shared API key used by the plugin. That means all users of the plugin are contributing to the total usage. If usage is high, the quota may be reached even if you haven’t used it much.
Is this a bug in the plugin?
No—this is not a bug. The plugin is working correctly but is being blocked by YouTube due to API quota limits. The error originates on YouTube's end and is outside the plugin's control.
When does the YouTube API quota reset?
Quotas typically reset every 24 hours at midnight Pacific Time (PT), but Google controls this and may vary slightly.
Is there a workaround?
There are no workarounds. You'll need to wait until the quota resets.
Is Elgato working on a fix?
Yes, though it is not entirely in our control. We are working with YouTube to increase our quota limit and, additionally, implement changes in the plugin to reduce the chance that this limit is reached.
Do I need to do anything to resolve this?
Nope—This will resolve itself. You do not need to take any action, like downloading an update or re-logging into your account.
