USB 3.x
Elgato Game Capture HD60 S connects to your computer using a USB 3.x cable. It uses USB 3.0.
Other Elgato Gaming products use either USB 2.0, or PCIe.
Instant Gameview
Elgato Game Capture HD60 S allows for Instant Gameview - an instant preview on the computer monitor to reflect what you see in game including your reactions on webcam and live commentary.
With Elgato Game Capture HD60 S, you can expect that absolute lowest delay between game and preview.
Elgato Game Capture HD and Elgato Game Capture HD60 do not have Instant Gameview.
Stream Copy vs. Master Copy
When streaming and recording at the same time, Elgato Game Capture HD60 S uses Stream Copy - both your stream and recording will share the same resolution, frame rate and bit rate.
Other Elgato Gaming products have a H.264 encoder chip, so they can use Master Copy - recording at one resolution while streaming using other settings.
How Video Is Encoded
Elgato Game Capture HD60 S does not have a built-in H.264 encoder chip.
Instead, the fast USB 3.0 connection brings data to your computer, where it is processed, captured and streamed in very high quality H.264 video.
The use of USB 3.0, and the method of allowing the computer to process the video directly, allows Elgato Game Capture HD60 S to offer Instant Gameview.
Since Elgato Game Capture HD60 S relies on your computer to process the video, it has higher System Requirements than some other Elgato Gaming devices.
Other Elgato Gaming products do have a built-in H.264 encoder, including:
• Elgato Game Capture HD
• Elgato Game Capture HD60
• Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro
However, that encoder varies in output, depending on the product. One way that quality varies is the bit rate, measured in Mbps.
