What Audio and Video Sources Can Elgato Video Capture Use?

Elgato Video Capture can record from an analog or digital video recorder, a decoder, a camcorder or from a video device having a composite video, or S-Video output, and providing standard definition videos.

The video signal standards supported are NTSC, SECAM, PAL and PAL / 60 (PAL 60 Hz).

Note regarding the source video Aspect Ratio:



Elgato Video Capture can capture videos with a window ratio of 4: 3 or 16: 9. The "Aspect Ratio" option of Elgato Video Capture will stretch the content of the video to the appropriate size but will not cut the top and bottom of the video frames.

Consequently, if your video source is in letterbox format (video in 4: 3 window ratio with black bands at the top and bottom of the image), use "4:3" as the window ratio option otherwise the video will be stretched and therefore distorted.

 

Audio

 

Elgato Video Capture can record any analog audio source, whether stereo RCA audio outputs (also called CINCH) or the audio signal delivered by a SCART socket (via the SCART adapter supplied with Elgato Video Capture in certain regions). If you record audio without video, Elgato Video Capture will still create a video file but with an empty video track. You can delete this video track with third-party software, for example QuickTime Pro.

Note: Recording of analog audio sources without video is not officially supported.
