Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ can record videos to a SD Card, without having a PC involved.

Video is recorded into a container format, such as .mp4, .mov, and .mkv.

The container depends on the file format of the SD card.

exFAT Format

When using exFAT, recordings will be made in the .mp4 container with AAC audio.

FAT32 Format

When using FAT32, recordings will be made in the .mov container with PCM audio. Note that recordings over 4 GB will be split into 4 GB segments.

For example If a video has a total size of 14 gigabyte, the SD card will contain three 4GB files and one 2GB file. The titles of the files will be numerically increased. The video files need to be placed into a video editor in the numerical order to recreate the entire video. 

Advanced Settings

Recordings can be optionally saved in the .mkv format. MKV is a corruption resistant container.

This means if the SD Card fills up or a recording is improperly stopped, then the recording is still accessible and can be used.

If a file corrupts when using .mp4 or .mov formats, the file may be unusable.

Please note that not all video editors work with the .mkv format.
