Using your PlayStation 3 with Elgato Game Capture HD is easy, after a few minutes of setup.

Make sure an HDMI cable is not attached to your PlayStation 3 when you're setting things up, or you may not get any video.
Instead, you will be using a special cable that comes with Elgato Game Capture HD, that carries both audio and HD video.
This video mentions 1080i as the highest resolution. That has now changed - the top resolution is 1080p.
We recommend selecting all possible resolutions in the Video Output Settings of your PlayStation 3. That way, your PlayStation 3 will always choose the best resolution your TV can support, depending on which game is active.

1) Connect your PlayStation 3 to Elgato Game Capture HD using the supplied PlayStation 3 cable.
2) Connect your TV to the HDMI Out port of Elgato Game Capture HD using the supplied HDMI cable.
3) Connect Elgato Game Capture HD to your Mac or PC using the supplied USB cable.
4) Press and hold the power button of your PlayStation 3 for 5-10 seconds until you hear a second beep. This will reset the display settings.
5) On your PlayStation 3, navigate to Settings → Display Settings → Video Output Settings.
6) Select Component / D-Terminal and press X or the Right button to continue. Confirm your selection by pressing the X button and choosing Yes on the subsequent screen.
7) Enable 720p, 1080i and/or 1080p output.

9) Switch input in Elgato Game Capture HD to Component.
Now you're ready to use Elgato Game Capture HD with your PlayStation 3.
