Elgato Game Capture HD and Surface tablets from Microsoft

The following article is for a product that is now considered Legacy (EOL) status. Because of this, the information below may not match what is possible with current Elgato hardware and software.

There are two types of Surface products from Microsoft.  Neither is suitable for use with Elgato Game Capture HD.

 

 Surface using Windows RT



The Surface and Surface 2 tablets use the Windows RT operating system and ARM CPUs. 

Elgato Game Capture HD does not support that architecture or operating system.

They cannot work with Elgato Game Capture HD in any way.

 

 Surface using Windows 8



The Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 use standard Windows 8 and Intel CPUs.

They can work with Elgato Game Capture HD software.

However, the Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 do not meet the minimum processor specifications for Elgato Game Capture HD (2.0 Ghz or faster). 

Therefore, we do not recommend using Elgato Game Capture HD with any Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro 3 tablet.
