The Wii U has Screen Size (Overscan) settings. They determine if there are black bars on the sides of your video, or not.
If your Wii U recordings have black bars around the edges, you can increase the Screen Size until they go away.

- From the Wii U Menu, select "System Settings"
- Select "TV"
- Select "Screen Size"
- Increase the screen size until the arrows are aligned with the edges of the screen
- Press the A Button to confirm the setting
