This guide will walk through how to update the firmware of 4K S.
Note: When performing a firmware update, it is critical that the update is not interrupted. While updating, please ensure the following:
⚠️ Do not disconnect 4K S.
⚠️ Do not close or quit Elgato Studio
⚠️ Do not shut down your computer.
Elgato 4K S Firmware Changes
Firmware Update (29 January 2026) - Base 25.4.17, MCU 251203
- Resolves an issue causing black dots and artifacts when capturing at 1440p120. We've also updated the 4K S EDID to add support for 2560x1080 ultrawide resolution.
Firmware Update Steps
1) Download and install the latest version of Elgato Studio from elgato.com/downloads.
2) Disconnect the HDMI cables connected to the HDMI in port and the HDMI out port of your 4K S.
3) Open Elgato Studio. If a firmware update is available, you will be notified at the top of the window.
4) Go to the Preferences, and choose Devices
5) Click on the Update Firmware button and wait until the update completes.
⚠️ Do not unplug the USB cable from 4K S during the firmware update.
6) After the update is complete, unplug the USB cable from 4K S for 30 seconds, and then plug it in again
7) Since the firmware update is over, you can now reconnect all HDMI cables, and use the 4K S again.
