This setup guide will allow you to record Xbox One game and chat with your Elgato Game Capture HD.
Items Needed For Setup
• Elgato Game Capture HD
• Xbox One compatible Astro Mixamp
• Xbox One Headset Adapter
• 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter (included with Xbox One Headset Adapter)*
• 2.5mm to 2.5mm cable (included with Astro Mixamp)
• Mixamp USB cable
• Astro Mixamp compatible headset
• Elgato Gaming Chat Link
• Optical Cable
• Optional: USB Wall adapter
• Component Breakout Adapter (included with Elgato Game Capture HD)
• RCA to 3.5mm Y adapter
**Note that no matter if you have a new controller with a 3.5mm jack or an older generation controller, the Microsoft Xbox One headset adapter is needed. The adapter includes a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter which is necessary for this setup. Users have reported online that generic 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapters do not work with this adapter, so deviating from this setup is not recommended
Setup Steps - Separate Mic Needed
This setup does not record your own voice, you will need a separate microphone connected to your computer for your own commentary.
01) Connect the Astro Mixamp’s USB power and optical audio to the Xbox One.
(Please Note: Some Xbox One’s systems have poor grounding, and can cause ground loops in audio setups. If you experience buzzing, instead of plugging the USB power from the Astro Mixamp into the Xbox One, plug it into the USB wall adapter and then into a power outlet.)
02) Plug the Xbox One Headset Adapter into your Xbox One controller.
03) Plug the 4-pole 3.5mm jack of the Chat Link into the Xbox One Headset Adapter.
04) Plug the 3.5mm jack of the Chat Link into the 3.5mm to RCA adapter.
05) Plug the RCA jacks of the 3.5mm to RCA adapter into the component breakout adapter’s Red/White RCA ports.
06) Plug the Component Breakout Adapter into the A/V in of the Elgato Game Capture HD.
07) Plug one end of the 2.5mm to 2.5mm cable into the controller port of the Astro Mixamp.
08) Plug the other end of the 2.5mm to 2.5mm cable into the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter.
09) Plug the 3.5mm end of the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter into the female port of the Chat Link.
10) Plug your Astro Mixamp compatible headset into the headset port of the Astro Mixamp.
11) In Elgato Game Capture HD software, click the Settings button (hammer/wrench icon).
12) Click the Audio Input dropdown box.
13) Change input to Analog Audio (Game Capture HD).
14) Click OK.
Alternative Setup Steps - Mic Monitoring Via Astro Mixamp
This alternative setup will allow you to record Xbox One game and chat with your Elgato Game Capture HD60.
This setup will also record your own voice, as the mic monitoring of the Astro Mixamp will be included in the game/chat feed.
01) Connect the Astro Mixamp's USB power and optical audio to the Xbox One.
