Elgato Wave Panels — Sound absorption and Noise Reduction Coefficient

Wave Panels are optimized to absorb sound within the average frequency range of human speech, which falls between 100Hz to 4kHz.

The measurement of how well Wave Panels absorb sound is known as Noise Reduction Coefficient or NRC.

For example, in the table below, when measuring a test sound at 1600Hz, Wave Panels absorbed 95% of the sound, with only 5% of the sound reflected.

Frequency Noise Reduction Coefficient (Higher is better)
250Hz 27%
500Hz 73%
1000Hz 99%
1250Hz 99%
1600Hz 95%
2000Hz 88%
2500Hz 80%
3150Hz 82%
4000Hz 96%
5000Hz 95%
6300Hz 90%

A note about NRC:

The test which produced the numbers in the table above was performed in a certified laboratory with specific environment and calibrated instruments. The amount of reverberation reduced by Wave Panels depends on several factors, including size of the space they're in, layout, and the amount of hard and soft materials that absorb, reflect, and diffuse sound.

Values in the table have been converted from decimal points to percentage for easier understanding.
