Some Elgato devices have the ability to have their EDID settings changed. This article will go over how to change the EDID setting, what the EDID modes do, and recommended settings.

What is EDID?
EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) is a small configuration file that is stored on devices that take in video signals such as TVs, monitors, and capture cards.
The EDID file contains information about the type of signal the device (TV/Monitor) can accept, such as resolution, frame rate, HDR format, bit depth, audio, (Stereo, multi-channel), and much more.
The EDID is transmitted from the display device to the device that is connected to the display such as a console or computer so that the console or computers knows what resolutions, frame rates, etc it can send the display.

These devices can have their EDID setting changed:
- Game Capture HD60 S+
- Game Capture HD60 X
- Game Capture 4K60 Pro
- Game Capture 4K60 Pro MK.2

- Game Capture 4K Pro
EDID Settings
The EDID settings are located in the Elgato Studio Software.
1) Click on the Expander in the upper right corner.

2) Navigate to the Device tab
Input EDID Mode
This setting will change the capture devices' EDID mode. EDID modes include: Merged, Display, Internal.
Select the EDID file that the Internal EDID mode will use. This is also where custom EDID files can be used. Custom EDID files must be in .bin format.
This setting comes into effect only when the Input EDID mode is set to Internal.
Note: Elgato Support is unable to assist with creating Custom EDID .bin files.
EDID Modes
Merged
This is the default EDID Mode.
This mode combines the EDID of the connected TV/Monitor and the capabilities of the capture device to create an optimized EDID.
Recommended for: Typical console capture setup where a TV or monitor is connected to the capture card HDMI output.
Internal
This mode sets the EDID of the capture device to the file defined by EDID (Internal) setting. In this mode the connected TV/Monitor capabilities are ignored.
Recommended for: Dual-PC capture setup where only the HDMI input of the capture card is used and the HDMI output is unused.
Warning
If the internal EDID defines resolution or frame rate not supported by the attached display, it may result in the display showing a black screen, an error message, or no signal.
Display
This mode copies the EDID of the display connected to the capture card output onto the capture card.
Recommended for: Use this setting if the Merged EDID mode is causing image issues with the attached display.
Warning:
If the display EDID has defines resolution or frame rate not supported by the capture card, the capture device signal may appear incorrect or not at all.
