Modern Elgato Game Capture cards cannot directly capture gameplay from a PlayStation 3 (PS3).
This is because Elgato Game Capture cards only accept unencrypted HDMI input. The PS3 always outputs video over HDMI with HDCP protection, which prevents capture devices from recording the signal.

Original Game Capture HD Can Work with a PS3
The original Game Capture HD can work with PS3 using the included PS3 AV cable, which captures analog video via Component or D-Terminal. Since these signals are not encrypted, they can be recorded without issue.
An Analog to Digital Converter May Also Work
You could also consider the following steps:
1) Purchase a Component output cable for your PS3. That will have red, green and blue cables for video, and red and white cables for audio.
2) Purchase a 3rd-Party Component to HDMI adapter.
3) Connect your PS3 to the HDMI adapter using your Component output cable
4) Connect your HDMI adapter to the Elgato Game Capture card of your choice, via a HDMI cable.
5) Make sure your PS3 is set to use Component output, instead of HDMI.
This way, the analog Component signal from your PS3 will be converted to a digital HDMI signal, that you can view and capture.
Elgato Support cannot help if such 3rd-Party adapters don't fully meet your needs.
