How do I hide the taskbar on Windows 11 when using Prompter?
By default, Windows 11 shows the taskbar on every display, including Prompter, which reduces the usable display space
Following these steps below, the taskbar will only appear on your main display, maximizing Prompter’s screen real estate.
To disable the taskbar for Windows 11:
1) Right-click on your Taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
2) In the settings window, expand the Taskbar Behavior section.
3) Uncheck the option Show my taskbar on all displays.
What should I do when connecting Prompter for the first time?
Systems may default to duplicating your main display upon first connection. To use Prompter as an independent display, change the mode to “Extend These Displays” under the display settings.
For Windows:
- Go to Settings > System > Display.
For macOS:
- Navigate to the Apple menu > System Settings, then click Displays in the sidebar. Select the display and choose an appropriate option from the “Use as” menu.
Why do other displays turn black when I use fullscreen mode on macOS with Prompter?
This issue occurs due to macOS’s fullscreen program handling.
Enable the 'Displays have separate spaces' option in the Mission Control settings to avoid this blackout problem when setting a program to fullscreen on Prompter.
Can I use a custom chat box with OBS Studio on Prompter?
Yes. OBS Studio supports custom browser docks, allowing you to maintain a custom chat box on Prompter.
Set this up by selecting 'Docks > Custom browser docks' from OBS Studio's navigation bar.
Enter your custom dock's name and URL, and position it on Prompter as needed. It will reopen in the same spot for future sessions.
How can I move Windows to Prompter using Stream Deck on Windows?
With the Windows Mover and Resizer plugin by Barraider, Stream Deck enables you to shift any focused window to Prompter via a single button press, optimizing it for size and position.
This plugin enhances your workflow by manually eliminating the need to drag windows to the Prompter display.
How do I minimize glare in captured video on Prompter?
Glare can result from various sources and may disrupt your video quality. Although Prompter has a special anti-glare coating, complete glare elimination is challenging. To minimize glare, consider:
- Using websites in dark mode or opting for programs with black/gray backgrounds.
- Adjusting Prompter’s display brightness through the Camera Hub.
- Enhancing the overall brightness in your filming environment to offset the glare effect.
Note: These FAQs pertain to optimizing your Prompter experience and troubleshooting common issues. System settings may differ slightly based on software updates or manufacturer modifications. Always consider checking for the latest updates or referring to official support resources for detailed guidance.
Does Prompter work with Apple Silicon M1/M2 Macs that have the one external display limit?
Yes, Prompter can be used with Apple Silicon Macs when already using an additional display. Prompter uses a technology called DisplayLink which does no t communicate via HDMI/DisplayPort and does not have the one external display limit.
Compatibility with Camera Models
Elgato Prompter supports a wide range of cameras and webcams thanks to its versatile mounting options. However, compatibility might be an issue for cameras without ¼” mounts, those with fields of view wider than 20mm FFE, or those of unconventional sizes.
We recommend checking your camera's compatibility here.
Note: Elgato has not verified every camera. We do our best to vet community submissions - but please keep this in mind before purchasing Prompter.
Mounting Instructions
Prompter mounts using a ¼” connection, compatible with our Multi Mount System, tripods, and other ¼” mounts. Additional support might be needed depending on your camera's weight
