Some Windows 7 users who install Elgato Game Capture HD software and drivers may encounter an issue where the software says “Please connect your device” even if the device is plugged in and the drivers are installed.
When in device manager, the Elgato Game Capture HD may show up with a yellow exclamation mark, with Error Code 52, saying that the device has unsigned drivers and they cannot be installed.
This may happen when Windows 7 is not fully up to date.
Check for Windows 7 Updates
To check for and receive the latest Windows 7 updates:
1) Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type "Update", and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
2) In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows 7 looks for the latest updates for your computer.
3) If any updates are found, click Install updates.
4) Once the updates are installed, you may need to restart your computer.
5) After the restart, follow the above steps to Check for updates again, to make sure that no updates remain.
Once all updates are installed, launch the Elgato Game Capture HD software. The Elgato Game Capture HD should now be recognized.
Check for Optional Windows 7 Updates
By default, only Important and Recommended updates are installed by Windows Update.
Optional Updates should also be installed. Optional Updates will update drivers, such as for the USB bus, graphic card, audio card, etc. If those drivers are out of date, or not installed at all, then that sometimes can cause Elgato Game Capture HD software to have difficulties during installation or use.
Please review all available Optional Updates and install all of them except "Windows 7 Language Packs".
